최근 신재생 에너지(또는 그린 에너지)는 미래 전력원으로서 연구가 활발히 되고 있다.
신재생 에너지는 자연계에서 지속적으로 일어나는 현상을 물리 또는 화학적 변화의 경로를 통해 전기에너지로 변화시킴으로써 얻어진다.
여기서 전기화학은 전기와 화학 현상을 연결해주는 학문으로, 신재생 에너지 개발에 중요한 역할을 하며, 많은 에너지 연구가 전기화학을 기반으로 이루어지고 있다.
그리고 최근 다양한 관점에서 더 복잡한 형태로 연구하고 있어, 새로운 전기화학적 측정 방법이 연구되고 있다.
우리 실험실에서는 신재생 에너지의 전기화학을 연구하기 위해 전기화학 임피던스 분광법(electrochemical impedance spectroscopy)을 이용한다.
임피던스 측정법은 특정 주파수를 가지는 전기 신호에 따라 다르게 나타나는 전기화학 현상을 관찰할 수 있는 방법이며, 최근 푸리에 변환을 이용한 방법의 경우 빠른 시간에 다양한 관점에서 실시간으로 측정이 가능하여 전기화학을 연구하는데 풍부한 정보를 제공하고 있다.
푸리에 변환 임피던스법을 이용하여 다양한 관점에서 신재생 에너지의 전기화학 현상을 연구하고자 한다.
특히, 태양광을 이용한 태양전지에서는 태양광의 파장에 따라 다른 전기화학 현상을 보여주므로, 실시간 관측이 가능한 임피던스법을 광학분광법과 동기화(synchronize)시킴으로써 동시다발적 현상을 짧은 시간에 관찰이 가능할 것으로 기대한다.
