(광)전기화학, 분자소자, 분광분석
"태초에 빛이 있으라"는 어느 종교의 표현을 빌릴 필요도 없이 우주의 시작은 "BIG BANG"후의 빛 (광자, photo)의 전차에서 시작되었다고 현대과학은 추측하고 있다.
현 지구 상에 존재하는 생명체의 근원적인 에너지는 태양으로 부터 오는 광에너지이다.
자연계에는 이러한 광에너지를 매우 복잡한 생물학적인 계를 통해 변환하여 생명현상에 활용하여 생태계를 유지하고 있다.
인류는 자연 생태계가 수억년전에 이룩한 광에너지의 변환 형태인 화석연료를 주로 활용하여 현재의 과학 문명을 이루었다.
이러한 측면에서 볼 때 광에너지에 대한 연구는 가장 근원적인 연구과제라고 볼 수 있으며 인류문명의 존폐가 에너지의 활용을 어떻게 효율적으로 조절하느냐에 달려있다고 볼 때 가장 근원적인 에너지인 광에너지 변환에 관한 연구는 또한 인류적 과제이기도 하다.
본 연구실에서는 이러한 광에너지를 보다 효율적으로 변환하고 활용할 수 있는 계에 대한 연구들, 대체에너지를 위한 인공공학성계의 개발, 광전지 및 광전기화학전지의 개발, 광변환소재 (광 스위치/광전도성막) 광 기억소자의 개발, 폐기물 처리를 위한 광촉매의 개발등과 현대과학의 가장 핵심기술이 될 "Nano Technology"와 관련된 분자수준에서 제어가능한 기능성 소자의 연구개발, 반도체 및 자기성 나노입자의 합성 및 물성연구, 자기조립법을 활용한 기능성 유기박막 및 유기/나노입자 혼성박막의 제조 및 특성 연구 등도 함께 수행하고 있다.
