The Korea's First Ocean Engineering Program

 

Founded in 1979

The Ocean Engineering Department of National Fisheries University of Pusan (NFUP) was established in 1979 as the first ocean engineering program in Korea. In 1981, the Institute of Ocean Hydraulics (IOE), as an independent research institute, was founded for the research of ocean hydraulics. 


Reorganized in 1996

In 1996, the University was renamed as the Pukyong National University (PKNU) as the NFUP was combined with the Pusan Technical University (PTU). Originally, the department located to the Building 4, which was next to the IOE. 


Relocated in 2005

In 2005, a new building called the Environmental Research Building was founded, and the department and the associated research facilities including the IOE relocated to the building.

In 2020, the people of this department are as follows: 180 undergraduate students, 23 full-time and part time graduate students, 8 tenure-track faculties, 4 non-tenure-track faculties as teaching and research professors, 2 staffs, and some post-doctoral researchers.
