Scholarship

Aims

At Pukyong National University, the Scholarship Committee effectively administers the scholarships based on the school regulations and various rules.



Normal

  • The Scholarship Committee considers primary criteria, screening and distribution for scholarships.
  • The President reviews the screening results from the Scholarship Committee and endorses them.


  • Qualification

    To be eligible for consideration: a student must meet the criteria as follows except for other specified criteria.


  • A student with financial needs and a previous semester's GPA of at least 2.5 (except for special scholarships)
  • A student who meets the eligibility requirements of specified funds
  • A freshman who meets the eligibility requirements of the academic year approved by the President
  • A student who is considered for special exemption and submits application materials for the scholarship by the specified deadline (Applications are available from individual Colleges or Departments)
  • A student specifically endorsed by the President.


  • Screening Process

    To be eligible for consideration: a student must meet the criteria as follows except for other specified criteria.


  • Honors Scholarship
  • The President is in charge of placing the number of recipients of individual Colleges and Graduate Schools in accordance with the scholarship regulations, and each Dean reports the recipients selected to the president.


  • Special Exemption
  • A student considered for special exemption should submit application materials for the scholarship (Application forms are available from individual Colleges or Departments) to his academic advisor by the specified deadline (3 months earlier than the following semester: notified in June and December) The academic advisor checks the qualification of the student and recommends the student?to the Head of the Department and then to the individual Dean.

    The President gives final approval to the recipients of general scholarships, special exemption and honors scholarships each semester after considering the recommendation by each Dean.



    Exceptions

    Exceptions considered for scholarship recipients are as follows:


  • A student who has received disciplinary punishment in the previous semester or is under punishment
  • A student who has a GPA in the previous semester below 2.5
  • A student who withdrew from a class with less than 67% attendance (Only applicable to a student applying for an honors scholarship)
  • A student whose behavior disgraced the university
  • A student on temporary leave
  • A student who made a false report on their application
  • A student considered for special exemption without application materials for scholarship
  • A student who doesn't meet the eligibility requirements for individual scholarships
  • A student who does not need financial aid


  • Type

    Honors scholarship - The honors scholarship is available for the students who have a GPA of at least 3.0 in the previous semester with the recommendation of his academic advisor.
    - The honors scholarship is only available for the appropriate semester and if a scholarship student is on temporary leave, the unpaid portion of his scholarship will not be used.
    Research/Academic Assistant Scholarship - This helps an undergraduate student who finds it difficult to continue his or her studies because of financial difficulties by doing administrative work.
    - He or she is supposed to work at least 40 hours a month (2 hours a day) and the pay is 200,000 won.
    Research/Academic Assistant Scholarship - This is for graduate students in Master's and Doctoral programs who help professors with research and lectures
    - He or she is supposed to work at least 80 hours a month (20 hours a week) and the pay 300,000 won.
    Off-Campus Scholarships There are a variety of scholarships from on and off campus scholarship funds, companies, groups, and other benefactors to help students who are excellent in academic achievement but find it difficult to continue their studies because of financial problems.
    Pukyong Scholarship for Overseas Students - A foreign student from institutions abroad and Korean migrant students who wish to study at Pukyong National University
    - The program will provide each student with a living allowance of 200,000 won (Master's degree for 2 years) and 300,000 won (Doctorate for 3 years) per month and the tuition fees are subsidized by his academic advisor.
    - Further assistance will be considered in accordance with his or her Korean proficiency test 1 year after he or she has joined this program.
