Research Topic

We are investigating electroceramics for dielectric, piezoelectric and thermoelectric applications. Pursuing NEW PROCESS and NEW MATERIAL are key strategies in our research. First, new process is based on sonochemical process, which uses ultrasonic energy to activate the raw materials to be transformed into a designed electroceramic powder through calcination process. We have adapted sonochemically activated solid-state reaction for the synthesis of well-known electroceramics, like BaTiO3. The sonochemical process can enhance the solid-state reaction significantly without loss of dielectric properties as compared to the conventional solid-state reaction and we have reported detailed mechanism for the enhancement. We believe that this sonochemically activated solid-state synthesis will be effective in developing a time-saving, contamination-free, and cost-effective process in highly competitive MLCC and various ceramic industries, through further process optimization. Second, we are exploring new electroceramics for use in dielectric, piezoelectric and thermoelectric applications. Perovskite oxides are our basic materials. We have been working to modify the specific compositions in the perovskite oxides to improve the properties for each application and now we are focusing on stanate-based perovskite oxides.
