OE Chair

 

The Department of Ocean Engineering (OE) of Pukyong National University (PKNU) locates in Busan, the 2nd largest city in Korea, that is proud of Busan Port, Gwangan Grand Bridge, Haeundae Beach, Oruk Islet, and Jagalchi. The Ocean Engineering Department focuses on educating students who become a major axis for the development of the human being's cultures based on ocean.


The subjects of ocean engineering can be divided into ocean resource and ocean space developments. This department concentrates on the research and education on coastal and harbor engineering, ocean and environmental engineering, structural and materials engineering, geotechnical and construction engineering. Especially, as the first ocean engineering department in the Korean history, ocean construction, marine environment, and disaster prevention programs of this department have been nationally and internationally recognized.


As a result, this department has participated in various large government fund from the Ministry of Education such as NURI (New University of Regional Innovation) from 2004 to 2009, 2nd Stage BK (Brain Korea) from 2006-2012, BK21 Plus from 2013 - 2020, CK (Creative Korea) 1 from 2014 to 2018, LINC+ (Leaders in Industry-university cooperation) from 2017 to 2021, BK21 Four from 2020 - 2027, and LINC 3.0 from 2021 - 2027. These projects make not only the department improve quality of education, the opportunity of scholarship, and the facility of experimental study but also graduate students widen their research fields and accordingly contribute to relevant science and technology, regional industry, and global societies.


In the front line of the 21st century, the Ocean Engineering Department of Pukyong National University will constantly contribute to the development
and conservation of ocean.
